Test Regulations
The OET Test is a high-stakes English Language proficiency test designed and accredited to assess the communication skills required for healthcare professionals seeking to register, work or study in an English-speaking environment. To meet Recognising Organisations’ requirements, candidates are required to attain a minimum score for each of the measured sub-tests (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking).
We emphasise the importance of becoming familiar with both the test construct and the assessment criteria. To best prepare test candidates, we provide support on our website at oet.com, including a variety of OET Ready preparation materials for both native and non-native English speakers, and a list of endorsed OET Preparation Partners.
This Test Regulations applies to all modes of test delivery, as follows:
- OET Test on Paper;
- OET Test on Computer; and
- OET@Home®.
This Test Regulations is designed to ensure:
- our candidates are treated fair and equitably;
- the testing environment is secure; and
- that all test delivery staff conform to high-quality performance standards.
Acceptable/Valid ID: identification (ID) that meets and complies with the Acceptable Candidate Identification Policy in Section 4.6 of the Test Regulations.
Book/Booking: completing a/completed test booking using our booking portal to take the OET Test on a scheduled test day/time.
Business Day: a business day for the purpose of this document is Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm in Melbourne, Australia. Business Days do not include local public holidays.
Candidate: a person who is registered to take the OET Test.
CBLA, "we," "us," or "our": refer to Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Pty Ltd as trustee for Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Unit Trust, the entity that owns the OET.
Clubbing: using two or more test results that have been issued against different OET Test dates to achieve the required score set by a Recognising Organisation.
OET Test or test modes: the OET Test is an international English language proficiency test specifically designed to assess the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who seek to register and practice in an English-speaking environment and is delivered in three modes: OET Test on Paper, OET Test on Computer, OET@Home. Consists of four individual components called sub-tests, which include Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking (LRWS).
OET Account: self-access portal for OET Test on Computer where a candidate can log in to view and manage bookings, view results and allow access for Recognising Organisations to verify results.
OET Speaking Test: the Speaking sub-test delivered via Zoom required to be taken with OET Test on Computer.
myOET: online account dashboard for candidates who have booked OET Test on Paper. Allows candidates to book and manage bookings, check their Statements of Results, and perform other account management functions.
Proctor: Invigilator who oversees the OET Test on Computer and OET@Home test administration on test day.
Prometric™: our delivery partner for computer-based testing, which provides the OET Test on Computer and OET@Home.
Recognising Organisation: An external organisation that accepts the OET Test results as proof of a Candidate’s English language proficiency, such as a healthcare regulator or University, a full list of all Recognising Organisations can be found on our website.
Special Testing Arrangements (a term used when you book OET Test on Paper) and Testing Accommodations (a term used when you book OET Test on Computer or OET@Home): refer to any adjustments or arrangements requested by a candidate to ensure they are provided with a fair and equitable opportunity to take the OET Test. Both terms are collectively referred to as "Special Testing Arrangements" in this document.
Test Administrator: Senior Invigilator or Proctor who oversees test administration on test day.
Test Administration: time period during which all four sub-tests are offered or administered.
Venue Manager: the main point of contact at a test delivery venue.
Venue: an authorised test delivery venue where a candidate takes either OET Test on Paper or OET Test on Computer.
4.1 General regulations and conditions
As an OET Test candidate, you will need to do the following:
- Confirm, as part of the Booking process, that you have read, understood, and accept our Terms and Conditions, which incorporate these Test Regulations and the our Privacy Policy.
- Comply with our Terms and Conditions and these Test Regulations. If you do not comply with our Terms and Conditions and these Test Regulations, you may not be eligible to complete the test and/or receive a statement of results.
- Check for the minimum OET Test score (results) accepted by your Recognising Organisation to which you are applying.
- Check with your Recognising Organisation if your OET Test results are required to be held in one sitting.
- Check with your Recognising Organisation if the OET Test delivery test mode you have selected is accepted by your Recognising Organisation.
- A list of Recognising Organisations can be found on our website "Who recognises the OET Test?".
All OET Test dates, booking schedules, booking closing dates, and fees are predetermined by us. You will be required to select your preferred OET Test date and mode of delivery when booking the OET Test.
Please note that not all OET Test delivery dates and testing modes are available in all countries. Ensure that you check the test mode, profession, country, and Venue availability on the our website prior to booking the OET Test.
*We do not offer testing or receive payments (funds) from candidates residing in Sanctioned Countries. Candidates may be required to provide proof of residency in the country where they are sitting for the test. For more information, please refer to the FAQs.
4.2 Registration and booking
You must first register (create an account) prior to making an individual or third-party booking for the OET Test. Refer to Section 4.4 Booking OET for information about third-party bookings.
4.3 Registering with us
- You must use a current personal email to register with us (this should not be an educational or workplace email address). Note: If you are applying for ECFMG certification, you must register with the same email address as you use for ECFMG, be it a personal or other email address.
- You must read and accept our Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Collection Notice. You must click ‘I Agree’ in order for your registration to be complete. These Test Regulations are accessible via our OET Terms and Conditions.
- You must provide details of a valid identification (ID) for your test booking. The same ID must be presented on the test day and must pass the identity verification process for you to be permitted to sit for the OET Test:
- OET Test on Paper: you need to upload a current photo that meets our requirements (further instructions for acceptable photos are available here).
- OET Test on Computer and, OET@Home: you need to upload an image of your identification.
Note: Please refer to Section 4.6 Acceptable candidate identification for further information on acceptable forms of ID.
4.4 Booking the OET Test
- Booking fees for the OET Test are paid at the time of booking.
- Bookings are subject to availability.
- Our Test Regulations prohibits you from having more than one booking per test administration.
- You cannot have multiple bookings within the same test administration across all delivery modes.
- You may not be eligible for a full refund if you hold multiple bookings within the same test administration across different delivery modes

All four OET Test sub-tests must be taken the first time you sit the test to be able to receive your OET Test results. You may book one or more additional OET sub-tests after completing your first OET Test; however, you should first check with the Recognising Organisation that you are applying with if they accept scores of single sub-tests.* |

Once you have successfully booked the OET Test, you will receive via email:
Your timetable will be sent to you in a separate email from your test Venue, up to 48 hours before your test day. |

- *Some Recognising Organisations accept Clubbing of scores from tests taken on different dates, please check with the Recognising Organisation that you are applying with as to whether they allow Clubbing of scores.
- If you are re-sitting one or more sub-tests, you are not required to book all four sub-tests (Note: this only applies for OET Test on Paper and is subject to your Recognising Organisations requirements for a single sub-test resit).
- You are responsible for confirming and accepting that your booking details are correct when finalising your booking.
- You are responsible for checking the accuracy of all details and immediately notifying us of any discrepancies.
- Errors identified on or after test day may result in delays in the release of your test results and you not being able to sit the OET Test as further checks may be required.
- You will receive confirmation of your booking by email (please check your spam or junk mail if you do not receive the email).
What happens if I do not show up for my test?
Unless you can demonstrate extenuating circumstances impacted your ability to attend the scheduled test day, you will not be eligible for a refund.
If you do not show up for your test, you have five Business Days to contact OET Support to supply evidence of your situation. All submissions are assessed individually, and an outcome of your request will be provided after your case is reviewed.
For third-party test booking and payment
We can facilitate third-party payments for a group of candidates from an approved organisation by request. This request allows an organisation to book a test date for a group of candidates and pay on their behalf, however, each candidate will still have to create an OET Account for themselves, before a third-party booking and payment can be made. 4.5 Special Testing Arrangements Rules
Special Testing Arrangements allow candidates to request reasonable adjustments they require to complete the OET Test. These arrangements are available for candidates who meet certain eligibility criteria and properly document their request.
We are committed to taking all reasonable steps as far as reasonably practicable, to provide our candidates with reasonable Special Testing Arrangements, to ensure that all our candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their English language proficiency. Special Testing Arrangements are not reasonable, for example, if they would affect the measurement of skills that the OET Test is intended to measure, alter the predictive validity of the resulting test scores compared with scores achieved under standard conditions, or jeopardise exam security. We reserve the right to deny accommodations when we have a good faith basis for concluding that any of these situations apply.
Note: Please be advised that due to the nature of the OET Test, some types of arrangements, may not be available. We cannot guarantee that all arrangements can be accommodated by the preferred test date or venue or delivery method.
Special Testing Arrangements provided on the OET Test must be reasonable. Special Testing Arrangements are intended to address current disabilities/impairments or medical conditions that would be expected to interfere significantly with your ability to take the OET Test. You should provide clear evidence that a specific type of Special Testing Arrangements is needed to address a current, significant functional limitation that is likely to interfere with your ability to take the OET Test under standard conditions. For example, if you are requesting extended time, you should provide evidence that you currently have a significant difficulty working effectively under timed conditions, as compared with most people.
We will take all reasonable steps to fulfil Special Testing Arrangements requirements following the receipt of supporting documentation within the required timeframe, however, we do not guarantee that the Special Testing Arrangement(s) requirements can be fulfilled.
Note: Special Testing Arrangement(s) do not incur an additional fee. Submission of a Special Testing Arrangement(s) Request does not guarantee approval of the request. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis after careful review of the documentation submitted.
Please ensure that you read and follow the Special Testing Arrangement(s) Rules. A failure to adhere to these Rules may impact your ability to receive a Special Testing Arrangement on your scheduled test day.
Apply early: If you think you will need a Special Testing Arrangement for an OET sub-test/s we strongly recommend that you begin the application process well ahead of time. You will need to submit your request for Accommodations in a timely manner, to ensure that they can be facilitated. Applications will not be processed after the cut-off period for your scheduled test administration. Please refer to the Rules regarding applying for testing accommodations below.
4.5.1 Applying for Special Testing Arrangements
You must notify us of your Special Testing Arrangements requirements during the booking process.

4.5.2 What documentation must I submit with my application for Special Testing Arrangements?
As a candidate, you are responsible for providing the required documentation to support your application for Special Testing Arrangements to us. You will need to resubmit the supporting documents when making new booking(s) and/or rescheduling your test.
We are not able to determine the specific arrangement(s)/accommodation(s) you require without these documents, and it will be important for your treating specialist or medical practitioner to convey the requirements in the documents you provide to us.
All Special Testing Arrangements requests must be accompanied by appropriate supporting documents (e.g. Medical Certificate from a registered medical practitioner or qualified treating professional).
Special Testing Arrangements requests must be supported with important documentary information signed by your treating specialist and/or medical practitioner that are qualified to verify the following:
- the existence of a disability/impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, as compared with most people or the presence of a diagnosed medical condition by a qualified medical practitioner;
- the current impact of your disability/impairment and how it limits your ability to take the test under standard conditions; and
- details of your specific testing accommodation requirements for participating in the OET Test and rationale for why the requested arrangements/accommodations are necessary and appropriate relative to your impairment(s) or medical condition.
Documents in support of your request for Special Testing Arrangements must be:
- current and relevant to your testing needs;
- preferably in English, or certified translations where they are not in English; and
- scanned original documents bearing the letterhead, name, relevant qualification/s and signature of a qualified professional.
Special Testing Arrangements may not be approved if you do not specifically document your impairment/medical condition, or if the requested accommodations are not reasonable.
Additional documentation
If the documentation you submit is incomplete or outdated, we’ll send you a decision letter with a request for more documentation. If this happens, we may not be able to review the documents in time for your scheduled test date and will advise you to re-schedule or defer your test.
Note: Extenuating circumstances
Only in exceptional circumstances, we may, at our sole discretion, approve Special Testing Arrangements (requests where a candidate can sufficiently demonstrate that it is impractical to provide supporting documents in the required timeline.
4.5.3 Approving Your Request
Our Support Team will review each Special Testing Arrangements request on a case-by-case basis. Where required, the special arrangements case will be escalated to a Senior Officer within CBLA who will guide you further if additional documentation is needed.
By submitting the request, you give us the right to verify the authenticity of the supporting documents provided.
If you have travel plans require you to arrive at or leave the test venue at a specific time, we will endeavour to schedule your Speaking sub-test timeslot to suit you. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate these requests.
You will be notified in writing (email) of the outcome of your Special Testing Arrangements request.

4.6 Acceptable candidate identification
OET Test on Paper candidates
When booking the OET Test you need to book using one of the following forms of identification:
- Valid Passport; or
- Valid national ID*.
You are responsible for ensuring that the ID information you have entered into the booking system is correct.
*A valid national ID can be a single form of identification issued by the national government in the country in which you are sitting the OET Test (this excludes driver license). A valid national ID must include: your full name, photograph and date of birth (DoB) – all of these features must be recorded on the one form of national ID.
A European Union (EU) Card is regarded as a National Government ID and can be used for booking and sitting the test. You can use either your passport or national ID on the test day to verify your identity (note: the ID used for booking must match the ID presented on the day of the test).
OET Test on Computer and OET@Home candidates
When booking the OET Test, you need to book using one of the following forms of identification:
- Valid Passport; or
- Valid national ID*.
You are responsible for ensuring that the ID information you have entered into the booking system is correct.
*A valid national ID can be a single form of identification issued by the national government in the country in which you are sitting the OET Test (this excludes a driver’s license). A valid national ID must be in English lettering and include your full name, photograph and date of birth (DoB) – all of these features must be recorded on the one form of national ID.
A European Union (EU) Card is regarded as a National Government ID and can be used for booking and sitting the test. European Union candidates testing within the EU zone can provide a valid, unexpired EU card. You can use your passport or national ID on the test day to verify your identity (note: the ID used for booking must match the ID presented on the test day). Note: Where a National ID is not in English, then a certified translated copy will need to be presented along with the original ID on the test day.
For all test modes – Refugee and asylum status candidates: UK
Refugee or asylum status (or pending status) candidates that hold a valid national/government issued identification which bears: your full name, photograph and date of birth (DoB) will be able to book and sit the OET Test. This may include one of the following:
- Biometric Residence Permit (BRP); or
- Application Registration Card (ARC); or
- UK Home Office travel document (i.e. Convention travel document) issued by the UK Home Office.
You will be required to upload copies of the identification that you will use on test day on the OET booking website.
If you have another form of identification that does not have a photograph or your date of birth, please submit an Authorisation request form within 48 hours from booking so an authorisation letter can be issued and your identification checks can be completed on the test day.
For all test modes – Refugee and asylum status candidates: rest of the world
If you are a refugee or asylum status candidate booking for the OET Test, you can book using your official immigration documents recognising your immigration status that record your full name, date of birth and photo.
If your official identification document does not have a photo or is pending approval, please submit an Authorisation request form within 48 hours from booking, so an authorisation letter can be issued and your identification checks can be completed smoothly on the test day.
You will be required to upload copies of your refugee or asylum status or pending application as a refugee or asylum seeker.
Note: if you are issued with an authorisation letter from us, you must bring this letter to your test with your ID documentation. If you do not bring your approved documents, you may not be permitted to take the OET Test.
Taking the OET Test requires uninterrupted access to the internet, power supply, websites, devices or services that are not owned or controlled by us. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for such access, devices or services.
When booking the OET Test, you must acknowledge and agree that we will not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such access, devices or services.
CBLA and any other party involved in creating, producing or delivering the test are not liable for any direct, incidental, indirect, consequential, special, punitive or similar damages arising out of access to, use of, acceptance by or interpretation of the results by any third party, or any errors or omissions in the content of the OET Test.
Our maximum liability is limited to, at our election, re-supplying the OET Test or refunding the test fee.
6.1 Notice to Candidates for OET Test on Paper and OET Test on Computer
This Notice to Candidates details the rules and regulations of how you must behave during the test. You agree to follow these rules and regulations when you book the OET Test. Anyone not following the instructions contained in this Notice to Candidates may be subject to Section 10. OET malpractice.
Arrival time
For OET Test on Paper
- You are responsible for knowing the date, time, and location of your test.
- You must arrive at the Venue in accordance with the timetable specified by your test Venue. The Venue will inform you of test times via a timetable that will be emailed to you. If you have not received an email confirmation, check your spam/junk folders. If you still have not received an email confirmation, please contact our Customer Care team.
- You will receive your OET Test timetable no later than 48 hours before your test day.
- If you arrive late for test day registration, you may not be permitted to sit the test.
- If you are not in the test room prior to the start of the test you will not be allowed to take the test.
- Only a candidate can attend the test, no relatives (including children) or friends are allowed.
- The Venue staff must open the tamper-evident bags in front of you per sub-test.
- After each sub-test, the Venue staff must place all candidates’ test papers in tamper-evident security bags in front of you.
For OET Test on Computer
- You are responsible for knowing the date, time and location of your test, which will be communicated to you after your booking is finalised.
- You are required to arrive at least 30 minutes before your Listening, Reading and Writing scheduled sub-tests start time.
- You are required to download Zoom and log on to the Zoom link for your Speaking sub-test at least 10 minutes before the start of your test and wait for the Speaking sub-test to start. Note: The speaking sub-test is completed at your home in a private designated area. Please refer to the Speaking User guide for more information.
Test day check-in and ID verification
You are responsible for bringing the ID documentation (which you used to book the OET Test) to the Venue on test day.
Incorrect or alternative ID documentation will not be accepted. In some instances, you may still be allowed to take the test, and we will validate your ID after the test date. If we determine you cannot sit the test, you may not be entitled to a transfer or refund.
We reserve the right to withhold or cancel test results if ID documentation requirements are not met. You have five calendar days from the date you are contacted to provide the required document to us. If you fail to provide the required document within this timeline or the documents provided still do not meet our ID documentation requirements, we are entitled to withhold or cancel your OET Test results.
Candidates may be required to provide proof of residency in the country where they are sitting for the test. Acceptable forms of proof of residency may include:
- A residency permit
- A valid visa to be in the country where you are sitting the test
- Confirmation of hotel reservations
- A duly signed rental agreement for an apartment or home
The documentation provided must align with the specific test day. For instance, when providing confirmation of hotel reservations as proof of residency, the test day must be within the range of dates specified on the hotel confirmation.

1. The Test Day check-in process involves:
- Presenting the original copy of the ID document/s you used when you booked the OET Test for verification against the details provided during the booking process.
- Having your photo taken.
- Placing personal and unauthorised items in the cloakroom.
For the purpose of photo verification, you will not be asked to remove any religious headwear. Head coverings should be plain coloured and must be worn in such a way as to show the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead, and with the edges of the face visible.
2. ID Checks before and during sub-tests:
- You must make sure that the photograph, name and candidate number printed on your test paper are accurate.
- Invigilators or Proctors will check that your details in myOET or, that the OET Account matches your ID document when you arrive at the Venue.
- Invigilators or Proctors will check your ID documentation throughout the test day.
- Always ensure you have your original ID with you and that you don’t leave it anywhere in the Venue.
3. Identification document discrepancy
- Invigilators and Proctors have the discretion to decide what will happen in the case of ID discrepancies.
- If there are discrepancies you may be allowed into the Venue but, you will need to provide supplemental ID documentation that has your full name, photo and date of birth. Refer to Section 4.6 Acceptable candidate identification for information on what is accepted as supplemental ID documentation.
- You may not be entitled to a transfer or refund if there is a discrepancy in your ID documentation. Refer to Section 9. Rescheduling and cancellation.
- You may be asked to show your ID documentation throughout the test day and sign one or more identity declarations.
Personal items
- Bring an original copy of the approved ID document (passport, government-issued ID card or Authorisation Letter).
- Switch off your mobile phone or other electronic items and store them in the cloakroom.
- Headphones cannot be worn during the online Speaking sub-test.
- You may only bring the following items into a test room:
- Your identification document, non-mechanical pens, pencils, erasers, a pencil sharpener, and (for OET Test on Paper only) a small bottle of water in a clear plastic bottle, and;
- Medication and snacks, if approved prior to test day.
- You must not bring into the test room any bags, notes, study materials, dictionary, electronic items such as mobile phones, digital sound recorders, MP3 players, cameras, smartwatches, highlighters, mechanical pens, mechanical pencils, scrap paper, correction fluid or tape. Personal details
- Make sure your name and candidate number are correct. Invigilators/proctors will check that the name on your answer sheet/screen matches your ID either before or within the first 15 minutes of each sub-test.
- Make sure your name and candidate number are on each book/sheet you have used.
- Tell the invigilator/Proctor at once if:
- your personal details are wrong;
- you have been given the wrong question paper (this applies to OET Test on Paper only); or
- the question paper is incomplete or badly printed.

Health and comfort
- Bathroom breaks and leaving the test room:
- The Listening, Reading and Writing sub-tests are conducted consecutively with no scheduled breaks (including bathroom breaks) between these tests.
- There are strict rules on when and how you are allowed to leave the test room to ensure other candidates are not distracted during the test.
- During OET Test on Paper, you can go to the bathroom during the Reading Part B and Writing sub-tests (except for in the first and last 10 minutes). Raise your hand and wait to be accompanied by an invigilator.
- During OET Test on Computer, if you require assistance or need to go to the bathroom, raise your hand and wait for the Proctor to escort you.
- No additional time will be given if you choose to go to the bathroom. Only one candidate may visit the bathroom at one time.
- If you know you may need to go to the bathroom more frequently (for example, if you are pregnant), you can request Testing Arrangements at the time that you book. Refer to Section 4.5 Special Testing Arrangements for further information.
- If you do not feel well on the test day or think that your work may be affected for any reason, tell the Venue staff immediately and complete a Test Day Withdrawal/Deferral form if required. You will not be eligible to cancel or defer after you have started the test.
- If you feel unwell during the test or decide to leave the test, you must raise your hand and wait for an invigilator or Proctor to come and escort you out of the room.
- Do not smoke, eat or drink in the test room, apart from drinking water in a plastic bottle (approved snacks in clear plastic wrap excepted).
- Be considerate of others and do not make any noise near the test rooms.
- If you have any other problems, put your hand up, and an invigilator will come to you.
Test day conduct and behaviour
- Candidates are required to be professional, civil and respectful at all times while on the premises of the Venue.
- All tests may be monitored by video and audio recording, original walk-throughs, and through the observation window.
- The test administrator is authorised to dismiss you from the test session for a violation of any of the regulations, including exhibiting abusive behaviour towards test administrators or other candidates.
- If you are found to have violated any of the regulations during your test, the test administrator is required to notify Prometric and CBLA. Prometric and CBLA, either independently or together, shall then take any further action necessary to sanction your conduct, including but not limited to invalidation of your test score and/or pursuit of civil or criminal charges.
Confidentiality of OET Test content
The OET Test and all test content is the property of CBLA. Communicating, publishing, reproducing, or transmitting any part of a test, in any form or by any means (e.g. verbal, electronic, written, etc.) for any purpose is strictly prohibited. Any reproduction or disclosure may result in the immediate filing of civil and/or criminal charges against you and anyone directing or conspiring with you. CBLA may inform Recognising Organisations, education institutions, healthcare employers, bodies and councils as deemed appropriate.
Prohibited items and candidate conduct in the test Venue
- Weapons are not allowed in any test Venue.
- Unauthorised personal items may not be brought into the test room. Such items include, any bags, notes, study materials, dictionary, electronic items such as mobile phones, digital sound recorders, MP3 players, cameras, smartwatches, highlighters, mechanical pens, mechanical pencils, scrap paper, correction fluid or tap.
- Written notes, published materials, and other testing aids are strictly prohibited in the test room. Written notes or electronic devices discovered in the test room will be confiscated by the test administrator. Once you start the test you are prohibited from accessing your notes, this includes during toilet breaks.
- Only Venue-supplied tissues are permitted in the test room. All materials issued by the test administrator must be returned at the conclusion of testing.
- Light clothing items removed for comfort, such as sweaters, suit jackets, scarves, etc., must be hung on your chair, not placed in laps or on the workstation desktop. Outerwear such as heavy coats, parkas, raincoats, etc., are not permitted in the test room.
- Talking to other candidates in the test room, referring to their screens, testing materials/paper(s), or written notes is strictly prohibited.
6.2 Notice to candidates for OET@Home
Eligibility
All Candidates who book OET@Home must meet the system minimum requirements set out in the OET@Home User Guide. To be eligible for OET@Home you will also need to meet one of the following criteria:
- Sitting the test where there is no Venue available for OET Test on Paper or OET Test on Computer.
- Be approved for eligibility under exceptional circumstances. If you are unable to sit the OET Test on Paper and/or OET Test on Computer, you may be eligible to sit OET@Home. Eligibility for OET@Home is approved on a case-by-case basis by a senior OET staff member if you can demonstrate exceptional circumstances apply to you. For example: a current disability/impairment or medical condition that would be expected to interfere significantly with your ability to take the OET Test at a Venue. To apply for eligibility under exceptional circumstances, please contact OET Support.
Arrival start time
- You are responsible for knowing the date and start time of your test.
- You must ensure that:
- your device meets the minimum system requirements, for LRW sub-tests;
- you must ensure your device meets the Zoom requirements for the Speaking sub-test;
- you must have a video-enabled camera, speakers, and microphone for all sub-tests
- you must download the ProProctor application from Prometric on your device before the test start time (if you previously downloaded it, please uninstall the old version before reinstalling)
- you must have your Prometric confirmation number, which you will need to use to launch your test (this will be on the confirmation email).
- you must ensure that the headphones are connected during the Listening sub-test. The audio should not be audible outside of the headphones, or your test will be terminated.
- You must log on at least 15 minutes before your scheduled test start time and wait in the lobby for the Proctor to validate your ID before allowing you to start the test.
Test day check-in and ID verification
You are responsible for having with you the original ID document used for booking.
Incorrect or alternative ID documentation will not be accepted; you may not be able to take the test, and you may need to reschedule.
We reserve the right to withhold or cancel test results in the event that ID documentation requirements are not met. You have five (5) calendar days from date you are contacted to provide the required document to us. If you fail to provide the required document within this timeline or the documents provided still do not meet our ID documentation requirements, we are entitled to withhold or cancel your OET Test results.
If you select OET@Home, you must provide proof of residency to demonstrate your physical presence in the country where you are sitting for the test. For instance, if you hold a Chinese passport but are sitting for the test in India, you must provide proof that you are physically in India on the day of the test.
Acceptable forms of proof of residency may include:
- A residency permit
- A valid visa to be in the country where you are sitting the test
- Confirmation of hotel reservations
- A duly signed rental agreement for an apartment or home
The documentation provided must align with the specific test day. For instance, when providing confirmation of hotel reservations as proof of residency, the test day must be within the range of dates specified on the hotel confirmation.
If you produce any documents that are not in English, you'll need to get them translated in full by an accredited translator indicating that it is a true and accurate translation of the original document. It must also include the translator’s full name and official stamp or seal or translator’s identification number.
1. The Test Day check-in process involves:
- presenting the original ID document, you used when you booked OET Test for verification against the details provided during the booking process;
- having your photo taken; (You must remove your eyeglasses before an image is captured); and
- ensuring that you are alone in a quiet room.
For the purpose of photo verification, you will not be asked to remove any religious headwear. Head coverings should be plain coloured and must be worn in such a way as to show the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and with the edges of the face visible.
2. ID Checks before and during sub-tests:
- Proctors will check that your details in the OET Account match your ID document at check in;
- Proctors will check your ID documentation throughout the test; and
- Proctors may ask you to hold up your identity document to the camera to capture a visual image.
3. Identification document discrepancy:
- Proctors have the discretion to decide what will happen in the case of ID discrepancies.
- If there are discrepancies you may be allowed to commence the test however you will need to provide supplemental ID documentation that has your full name, photo and date of birth. Refer to Section 4.6 Acceptable candidate identification for information on what is accepted as supplemental ID documentation.
- You may not be entitled to a transfer or refund if there is a discrepancy in your ID documentation. Refer to Section 9. Rescheduling and cancellation.
- You may be asked to show your ID documentation throughout the test.
Personal items
- Ensure your acceptable ID document (passport, national ID card or Authorisation Letter) is with you before you start your test.
- Switch off your mobile phone or other electronic items and store them out of the room where you will be sitting for the test.
- Headphones must not be worn for the Speaking sub-test.
- You may only have these items with you during the test:
- Clear plastic bottle of water (bottle container must be completely transparent, regardless of container colour). All labelling on container must be completely removed.
- Liquid within the container must be clear, plain water – no other beverages are permitted.
- Your identification document.
- Medication and snacks if approved prior to test day.
- You must not have;
- any bags, notes, study materials, dictionaries, electronic items such as mobile phones, digital sound recorders, MP3 players, cameras, smartwatches, highlighters, mechanical pens, mechanical pencils, scrap paper, correction fluid or tape.
Personal details
Make sure your name and candidate number are correct. Proctors will check this at the start of your test. Inform the proctor if your personal details are wrong.
During the test you must adhere to the following rules:

- You will be entitled to a 10-minute scheduled break, which includes the check-in process again. This can only be taken after Reading sub-test Part A of the test and in accordance with the following:
- You must ensure you allow adequate timing for the check-in upon your return as the timer for Reading sub-test part B will resume after the 10-minutes allocated for the break and check-in;
- You are not allowed to leave the camera view without first notifying the proctor;
- Failure to inform Proctor prior to taking a break or failure to return within 10-minutes of the end of break time will result in test termination; and
- Upon return, a full security scan will be conducted prior to resuming your test so please ensure you allow adequate timing for the break as the test will resume after the allocated break.
- If you do not feel well on the test day or think that your work may be affected for any reason, tell the Venue staff immediately and complete a Test Day Withdrawal/Deferral form if required. You will not be eligible to cancel or reschedule after you have started the test.
- If you feel unwell during the test or decide to leave the test, you must inform the Proctor.

CBLA may inform Recognising Organisations, education institutions, healthcare employers, bodies and councils as deemed appropriate.
7.1 Results
Results are issued online approximately 12 Business Days after the test. A score ranging from 0–500 is issued for each sub-test. An overall grade for the OET Test is not issued. In the event of a technology malfunction where we are unable to issue results online, we will email results directly to candidates.
There are instances in which we are unable to release results in the timeframe stated. If circumstances beyond our control prevent us from publishing your results after you take the test (for example, where technical issues prevent us from being able to complete assessment activities), you will be allowed to select a future scheduled test date with no test administration fee or application fee charged.
You must check in on your OET Test day. If you fail to check-in and attempt any of the four sub-tests, you will be marked as absent for the relevant sub-test(s). You will receive a score of zero, and this will appear as a blank on your Statement of Results. If you fail to appear for all four sub-tests, you cannot receive a score and a Statement of Results.
We may withhold results in some instances due to rescheduled tests, malpractice, ID documentation discrepancies, and technical issues. In these circumstances, we will notify you via email. In some instances, such as if your test has been flagged during malpractice analysis or there are issues with your ID documentation, you are required to respond and submit additional documents in accordance with the timeframe specified in the notification. If you do not respond within the timeframe provided your results may be withheld permanently. (in reference to malpractice, please refer to Section 10 for further details).
The OET Re-marking Policy aims to ensure that candidates can request a re-mark of one or more sub-tests if you believe that your results do not reflect your true performance on the test. We aim to ensure that such requests are received, reviewed and resolved fairly and transparently.
8.1 How can I request a re-marking?
For candidates who took the OET Test on Paper, you can log in to myOET and click the “Request Re-marking” link for the sub-test or tests you want to get re-marked.
For candidates who took the OET Test on Computer or OET@Home, you can complete this form.
8.2 When can I request a re-mark of my sub-test?
You can request for re-marking within 72 hours from when your results are released. Requests received after this period will not be accepted.
Re-marking requests will only be reviewed if the payment has been made. Any request submitted without payment will not be assessed.
If your request for re-marking was submitted for the wrong sub-test, please contact us no later than 72 hours from the submission. Once re-marking is initiated, it cannot be reversed and you will not be refunded the re-marking fee.
Note: We cannot process your re-marking request if:
1) we have requested further information as part of the test day administration and your response has delayed the release of your results, and/or;
2) your request falls after 14 days from the official results release date.
In these instances, we will refund your re-marking fee in full.
8.3 What is the fee for re-marking?
To have your sub-test(s) re-marked, you must pay a fee of AU$120 per sub-test for re-marking.
We will notify you once your re-marking outcome is available, which may take between three to six weeks from the day you submit the request and receive the confirmation.
If there is a grade change, the re-marking fee will be reimbursed. However, if the outcome of your re-marking does not change your grade, you will not be refunded this fee.
8.4 Re-marking outcomes
Re-marking outcomes can include increased scores, decreased scores or no change to your score.
Your myOET dashboard or OET Account will be updated with your new result(s). On myOET, your updated Statement of Results will be available for download within 24 hours with your new result(s).
Where the outcome of a re-marking request brings into question the accuracy of grades awarded in an assessment, we will take all reasonable steps to identify any other candidate who may have been affected and, wherever possible correct or mitigate the error.
8.5 Important information for candidates
- The re-marking process does not provide qualitative feedback on your performance.
- If you take another test (the OET Test or from any other provider) during the time we are carrying out the re-marking, we will not refund any costs related to you taking that test, even if the re-marking increases your grade.
- If you change your mind before re-marking outcomes are published, you can request the re-marking outcome not be published. No refund will be provided in this circumstance.
- A re-marked result cannot be reversed back to the original result on the candidate’s request once it has been published. Your Statement of Result will only display the re-marking score.
- Requests for re-marking will only be accepted from candidates personally. A request made by a third party, relative, friend or colleague will not be accepted.
8.6 Can I appeal the outcome of the re-marking?
Any appeal against the outcome of the re-marking process must follow Section 13. OET Appeals Policy and process.
You can appeal the outcome of the re-marking if you believe the re-marking decision was not arrived at properly and fairly.
You cannot appeal unless the re-marking process has been completed.
Re-marking and appeal charges will be refunded in full if your sub-test grade(s) change as a result of your appeal.
There is an AU$120 fee for the submission of each stage of an appeal: Stage 1 and Stage 2. For more information, please see Section 13 OET Appeals Policy and process.
9.1 Rescheduling the OET Test
This section applies to all OET Test delivery modes, including OET Test on Paper, OET Test on Computer and OET@Home.
Important information for candidates:
- If you have booked the OET Test but cannot attend the original booked test date, you can reschedule subject to the conditions and fees listed below.
- The following are instances where you cannot reschedule a test to accommodate the changes required, and instead you must cancel your test and make a new booking:
- You cannot reschedule to change the test mode (e.g. OET Test on Paper to OET Test on Computer).
- You cannot reschedule to change the profession for which you have booked the OET Test.
- Bookings made using a discount code or purchased at a discounted price cannot be rescheduled.
- You cannot reschedule the OET Test on Computer or OET@Home to a venue in a different country.
- Refer to Section 9.2 Cancelling the OET Test for further information.
- If you have a special testing arrangements in your original booking, you will need to resubmit the supporting documents as part of the rescheduling.
- All bookings are subject to availability.
- A rescheduled booking cannot be reversed.
- Your Speaking sub-test rescheduling can only be made once.

How can I reschedule?
For OET Test on Paper, you can reschedule up to the day before your test via MyOET.
For OET Test on Computer or OET@Home, you can reschedule up to 48 hours before the start of your first sub-test on your OET account.
Late rescheduling:
For OET Test on Paper, there is no late rescheduling option. That means you cannot reschedule on or after the day of your test.
For OET Test on Computer, please refer to the timeline set out in the Rescheduling Fees table above. Please note:
- If you need to request a late reschedule and you have not attempted any sub-tests, refer to our support hub.
- If you fail to attend your Speaking sub-test, you must contact OET Support as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after your scheduled Speaking sub-test start time in order to reschedule. A fee of AU$100 will be applied. Failure to pay the fee may result in your results being withheld until payment is received. - OET Test on Paper;
- OET Test on Computer; and
- OET@Home.
If you wish to cancel the OET Test after booking your test, you will be refunded depending on when your cancellation request is made.
Note: You must cancel your whole booking and cancellations cannot be reversed.
OET Test on Computer and OET@HOME
- You cannot cancel if you have completed one of the sub-tests of that test administration.
- You can cancel before your LRW booking closing date (in your local time zone) and will be charged a cancellation fee of AU$120. You can do this directly in the OET Account.
- You can cancel after the booking closing and up to 48 hours before your test start time (in your local time zone) and will be charged a cancellation fee of AU$200.
- You cannot request a refund after your test.

- If your test is on a Friday, refunds will not be provided for any cancellation made after 11.59PM (local time) the Saturday before the test.

You cannot request a partial cancellation, for example, if you have booked two sub-tests, you must cancel both.

Change of delivery mode
If you require a change of delivery method from OET Test on Paper to OET Test on Computer or OET@Home (subject to availability), you will need to:
- Cancel your booking in myOET. You will receive a partial refund back into the card used for making the initial payment (please refer to the table below for the applicable fees); and
- Book and pay directly on the OET Account for the new delivery mode and test date.
Due to limited seats for OET Test on Computer or OET@Home, it is recommended that you check availability before cancelling your original test.
Change of date or venue for discounted test bookings using a discount code (any test mode)
You cannot reschedule a test or change the test venue for a test purchased using a discount code or purchased at a discounted price. You will need to cancel your booking and rebook your new preferred OET Test. A cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund amount. Please refer to the tables above for details.
Change of country for the OET Test on Computer or OET@Home
You cannot reschedule an OET Test on Computer or OET@Home to a different country. You will need to cancel your booking and rebook your new preferred OET Test location. A cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund amount. Please refer to the tables above for details.
Circumstances Outside Our Control
We will take all reasonable steps to ensure we fulfil our agreement to provide our services in accordance with this Test Regulations. In the event of our failure to perform any of our obligations due to circumstances outside our control, we shall be entitled to a reasonable extension of time for performing those obligations. Where we are unable to deliver your test due to circumstances outside our control, you will be entitled to re-book/reschedule to another test date at no additional cost. If there are no suitable dates, then a full refund will be issued. Unless otherwise required by law, we will not be liable to compensate you for any travel or accommodation costs, or any other loss or damage.
Circumstances outside our control include IT system or power outages, weather events, act of god, industrial action or other forms of industrial disturbance, war, riot, insurrection or any other unusual or unforeseen circumstances which we cannot control.
9.3 Third party test bookings
This clause 9.3 applies to OET Tests booked by a third party (Third Party) on your behalf.
9.3.1 How to reschedule or cancel a third party test booking
The Third Party may make a request to reschedule or cancel your test by emailing us at groupbooking@oet.com.au and providing all booking information requested by us.
You may make a request to reschedule or cancel your test by following the instructions below, depending on your test delivery mode.
OET Test on Paper
If you wish to request to reschedule an OET Test on Paper test:
You may check the booking closing date for your test here.
If you wish to request to cancel an OET Test on Paper test, you may do so by emailing us at applications@oet.com.au.
OET Test on Computer
If you wish to request to reschedule or cancel an OET Test on Computer, you may do so by logging into your account here.
9.3.2 Rescheduling fees for third party test bookings
The rescheduling fees set out in Section 9.1 Rescheduling OET above apply.
The person who submits the request to reschedule your test must pay the applicable rescheduling fee. We are under no obligation to process a request to reschedule your test until we receive payment of the applicable rescheduling fee.
9.3.3 Refunds for cancellations of third party test bookings
Notwithstanding anything else in these Test Regulations:
- subject to the terms and conditions of our agreement with the Third Party, we will issue any applicable refund to the Third Party;
- it is your responsibility to obtain a refund from the Third Party of any amounts you are entitled to under the terms of your agreement with that Third Party; and
- CBLA accepts no liability if you are unable to obtain a refund from the Third Party.
The OET Malpractice Policy aims to provide a transparent and ethical process for the management of candidate actions/conduct (malpractice).
We are committed to preventing the occurrence of fraud and maintaining the security and integrity of the OET Test.
10.1 Types of malpractice
Malpractice is any action which seeks an unfair advantage in relation to the OET Test.
Malpractice includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- obtaining unauthorised access to examination material;
- attempting to obtain an unfair advantage (cheating or deception) in any way, including using or trying to use unauthorised material;
- copying/collusion or attempted copying/collusion with others;
- disruptive behaviour or not following the instructions of test administrators including the use of prohibited devices;
- impersonation (pretending to be someone else);
- reproducing any part of the OET Test in any medium including memorising test material to gain or give an unfair advantage;
- altering any results document, including Statement of Results in any medium; and
- any other form of cheating or gaining of an unfair advantage.
We receive reports of suspected malpractice from various means, including:
- the Venue or test administrator;
- by an OET Assessor;
- by a Proctor;
- routine statistical analysis of candidates’ answers;
- following a review and/or investigation of candidates’ test responses;
- members of the public via the form on our Reporting fraud or misconduct page; and
- other means utilised by us from time to time.
10.2 Reporting suspected fraud or suspicious activity
We welcome legitimate reports of the following reportable matters:
- suspected fraud, malpractice, misconduct or other suspicious activity in respect of OET; and
- threats to the security or integrity of the OET Test.
If you believe you have witnessed, suspect or are aware of any reportable matters, we invite you to report the matter.
You can raise a concern with us under the arrangements outlined in this policy if you have reasonable belief that malpractice and/or a wrongdoing is occurring or is likely to occur.
To support our investigations on malpractice/fraud you may need to provide us with additional information following your report of suspected fraud or suspicious activity.
To contact us with information concerning a reportable matter, you can email test.security@oet.com.au (include ‘allegation’ in the subject line) or fill out the Reporting Suspected Fraud or Suspicious Activity Form. When making the report you have the option to remain anonymous.
10.3 Malpractice management
All candidate malpractice incidents are taken seriously and investigated.
Following a candidate malpractice incident, our senior staff member will gather information and evidence pertaining to the malpractice incident and arrange a OET Malpractice Committee meeting who investigate all evidence and statements, and determines the outcome of the malpractice incident.
If you have been involved in any forms of malpractice prior to, during, or post taking a test, we reserve the right to:
- arrange for the malpractice incident to be investigated by the OET Malpractice Committee;
- withhold your OET Test results pending the outcome of the investigation;
- suspend you from taking/retaking the OET Test based on the outcome of the investigation;
- request a statement or further information from you; and
- apply penalties such as disqualifying your OET Test results (permanently withhold your results), instigate a banning period, and cancel any future booked OET Test if it falls within a banning period.
The OET Malpractice Committee will communicate the outcome of all malpractice incidents to candidates via a formal malpractice outcome letter that will be received by the candidate via written correspondence (i.e. email).
10.4 OET Malpractice Committee
Candidate malpractice incidents are managed by the OET Malpractice Committee (the Committee) which are responsible for:
- implementing robust measures and controls for the identification and evaluation of allegations of malpractice.
- monitoring the effectiveness of internal controls to address suspected irregular conduct or malpractice.
- investigating findings for each malpractice allegation and decisions in relation to each allegation.
These decisions will include whether results will be published, as well as to determine whether any other penalties or remediation are imposed where appropriate.
We reserve the right to withhold all suspicious candidates results where there is extensive evidence between two or more candidates sitting in close proximity at the same test venue and have a similar sub-test(s) pattern of responses.
Where required, the Committee may determine there is sufficient evidence to impose a banning period. The outcome of this determination will be communicated.
10.5 Malpractice outcomes
Possible outcomes of the OET Malpractice Committee review include:
- a candidate’s OET Test results being disqualified (permanently withheld) in accordance with OET Test Regulations and OET Terms and Conditions;
- a candidate’s OET Test results being released;
- decision to impose a ban on the candidate from taking the OET Test for a period of up to two years in accordance with the OET Banning Policy (below);
- a candidate’s upcoming OET Test to be cancelled, and a refund may not be issued.
In some cases, it may be deemed necessary to initiate legal proceedings where criminal conduct is suspected and/or communicate the outcome of the malpractice incident to Recognising Organisations.
If we determine, in good faith, that there is reasonable cause to suspect or conclude that you may have been involved in malpractice, or conduct that potentially compromises the results of the sub-test(s), we may in our absolute discretion withhold or decide not to release your OET Test results.
If a candidate is suspected of engaging in any form of malpractice, or involved in activity that might damage the integrity and security of the OET Test, candidates may not receive a test result, their test fee may not be refunded, and they may be banned from taking the OET Test in the future.
If a candidate is banned, they will receive a written notification.
If the candidate books the OET Test while a ban is in place, they will not receive a test result and may not be entitled to a refund.
If a result is issued to a candidate whilst the candidate is subject to a ban, the result will be cancelled, and the candidate may not be entitled to a refund. Any Recognising Organisation that has accessed (or has access to) the results published will also be notified.
We welcome feedback from our candidates. Where a complaint regarding our service is received, we undertake to address that complaint effectively and efficiently. We take a responsive approach to complaint management.
12.1 Complaints process
Please follow this process if you wish to complain about any test day issues or relating to our products or services.
12.2 There are two types of complaints:
12.2.1 Complaints regarding test day
If you are not satisfied with the way a test was administered or the Venue staff’s actions, you must lodge a complaint within three calendar days of the test being conducted using the OET Complaints Form. If you do not make your request within that time frame, we reserve the right to refuse to investigate your complaint.
12.2.2 General complaints
General complaints regarding our products or services include:
- test administration other than test day delivery issues (see 12.2.1 above for complaints regarding test day);
- our service, including the application of our standard processes;
- test results other than result appeals (please refer to the OET Re-marking Policy for issues related to results); or
- any other area of concern.
General complaints must be submitted within 30 calendar days of the relevant incident. Your complaint must be submitted by completing the OET Complaints Form. If you do not make the request within that time, we reserve the right to refuse to investigate your complaint.
12.3 Making a complaint
A complaint must be lodged by completing the OET Complaints Form and providing as much information as possible to assist us in processing your request.
We are committed to acknowledging the complaint within three Business Days and will take all reasonable steps to complete the complaint review process within 30 days.
In the event that you are the subject of a malpractice incident and receive an outcome letter from the OET Malpractice Committee, you are not eligible to make a complaint; instead you must lodge a Stage 1 Appeal. Refer to Section 13. OET Appeals Policy and process for more information.
12.4 Management of the complaint
Upon receipt of your complaint, our investigation will include, as appropriate, obtaining additional information from you, statements from other candidates, and third parties as required, including but not limited to the Venue Manager and other Venue staff. As part of further investigations, we may review seating plans, details of candidate identity verification, or any additional information as required.
You will be advised of the outcome of your complaint within an appropriate timeframe.
12.5 Complaint outcomes
Possible outcomes of complaints may include:
- Results processed and published – your results may be processed following our standard assessment processes. Note: We are NOT able to increase marks in consideration of any issue affecting candidate performance.
- Re-sit arranged – you may be offered a free re-sit if your complaint is upheld. The free re-sit offered may be for a single or all four sub-tests; this is at our discretion.
- Reversal of decision – the outcome will be reviewed, assessed and released after further investigation.
- Continuous improvement – complaints will be reviewed and used to improve our processes and test delivery.
12.6 How to lodge an Appeal to your complaint outcome
Any appeal against your complaint outcome must be lodged within five calendar days and will follow the procedure set out below in Section 13. OET Appeals Policy and process.
Our Appeals Policy aims to ensure that candidates and OET Partners are able to appeal decisions made in relation to our Malpractice, Re-marking and Complaints policies. This policy ensures that your appeals are received, reviewed and resolved in a fair and transparent manner.
The term ‘Appellant’, as used throughout this Policy, refers to candidates and OET Partners, including agents, preparation centres, test venues or Recognising Organisations, that lodge an appeal with us.
13.1 Appeals process
Our appeals process is an escalation point for Appellants who have undergone the OET Malpractice process, OET Re-marking Process, or the OET Complaints Process.
The process focuses on whether, in the course of reaching decisions relating to the Malpractice Policy, Re-marking Policy or Complaints Policy, we applied our procedures properly and fairly in arriving at decisions by:
- implementing, where relevant, sufficient investigation of material facts including, for example, invigilator and interlocutor conduct, malpractice, Venue staff behaviour, the specific delivery and administration of the OET Test; and/or
- appointing qualified assessors who were not involved in the original marking to re-mark a candidate’s sub-test; and/or
- ensuring the assessor(s) carried out the relevant assessment process in accordance with the marking criteria; and
- ensuring communication with the Appellant in a timely manner.
For re-marking appeals, the appeals process is not concerned with judgments about candidates’ work in the test. An appeal will not involve re-marking or re-assessment of a candidate’s work, although this might be ordered as the result of an appeal if it is found that procedures have not been followed satisfactorily.
Where the outcome of an appeal brings into question the accuracy of grades awarded in an assessment, we will take all reasonable steps to identify any other candidate who may have been affected and wherever possible correct or mitigate the error.
Where the outcome of an appeal results in the discovery of a failure in one of our processes or systems, the relevant Appeals Committee (Malpractice, Re-marking or Complaints) will review the relevant process or system and take all reasonable steps to prevent re-occurrence.
We have a two-stage appeal process:
- Stage 1 – this is when the Appellant appeals the decision and outcome from either the OET Malpractice process, Re-marking process or Complaints process
- Stage 2 – this is when the Appellant appeals the Stage 1 Appeal decision and outcome from the relevant OET Appeals Committee
13.2 Appeal requirements
13.2.1 Malpractice appeals
- A fee of AU$120 is payable for the submission of each stage of a Malpractice appeal: Stage 1 and Stage 2.
- This fee covers the administrative costs related to processing the appeal request.
- Appeal fees will be refunded in full if the appeal is upheld.
- Appeal requests will only be accepted from candidates personally via the OET Appeal Request Form. Requests made by a relative, friend or colleague will not be accepted.
- Appeal requests must be submitted within 5 calendar days from the date of receiving the Malpractice outcome.
13.2.2 Re-marking appeals
- A fee of AU$120 is payable for the submission of each stage of a re-marking appeal: Stage 1 and Stage 2.
- This fee covers the administrative costs related to processing the appeal request.
- Appeal fees will be refunded in full if the Appeal is upheld.
- We will only consider an appeal about a test result if the re-marking process has taken place first. For more information, please see OET Re-marking Policy.
- Re-marking charges will be refunded in full if the sub-test grade(s) change because of the appeal.
- Appeal requests will only be accepted from candidates personally via the OET Appeal Request Form. Requests made by a relative, friend or colleague will not be accepted.
- Appeal requests must be submitted within five calendar days from the date of receiving the re-marking outcome.
13.2.3 Complaint appeals
- A fee of AU$120 is payable for each stage of a Complaint appeal: Stage 1 and Stage 2.
- This fee covers the administrative costs related to processing your request.
- Appeal fees will be refunded in full if the appeal is upheld.
- We will only consider an appeal about a complaint if the complaint process has taken place first. For more information, please see OET Complaints Policy.
- Appeal requests will only be accepted from candidates personally via the OET Appeal Request Form.
- The appeal request is submitted within five calendar days from the date of receiving the decision from the OET Complaints Committee that has led to making an appeal.
- Appeal requests will only be accepted from candidates personally. A request made by a relative, friend or colleague will not be accepted.
Note: If you take another test (the OET Test or from any other provider) during the appeal, re-marking or complaint processes, OET will not refund any costs incurred in taking the additional test.
13.3 Appeal management
13.3.1 Stage 1 Appeal
- The written evidence relating to your case will be considered by the relevant committee to your appeal: the OET Re-marking Appeals Committee, OET Complaints Appeals Committee or the OET Malpractice Appeals Committee.
- All OET Appeals Committees will have an independent member, who is not involved in the administration or marking of OET.
- The Appeals Committee will review all the written evidence relating to your case, to review and decide whether we have applied our procedures properly and fairly in reaching its decision.
- It is the role of the OET Appeals Committee to consider whether any further work relating to the original decision should be authorised (e.g. re-marking of additional scripts, gathering of additional evidence). If further work relating to the original decision is authorised, this information will form part of the OET Appeals Committee final recommendation.
- The OET Appeals Committee includes the CEO (or their delegate) of CBLA and at least one member who is not a member of the CBLA Board, or a CBLA employee or assessor. The OET Appeals Committee will make a decision based on the findings, and any further information obtained during the appeal case review.
- You will be notified in writing of the Stage 1 Appeal decision, including the outcome of any further work authorised, within:
- Malpractice appeal: three weeks of your submission
- Complaints appeal: three weeks of your submission.
- Re-marking appeal: eight weeks of your submission.
13.3.2 Stage 2 Appeal
- If you remain dissatisfied after receiving the decision of the OET Appeals Committee at Stage 1, you may request a Stage 2 Appeal.
- Upon request by you, your submission will be forwarded to an Independent Reviewer who considers appeals against OET Appeals Committee decisions. An Independent Reviewer is a suitably qualified external consultant with relevant experience.
- You will be notified in writing of the Independent Reviewer’s decision within:
- Malpractice appeal: three weeks of your submission
- Complaints appeal: three weeks of your submission.
- Re-marking appeal: six weeks of your submission
- Consideration of an appeal by the Independent Reviewer concludes the OET appeals procedure.
How to lodge a Stage 2 Appeal
You must clearly explain in writing the reason for requesting the Independent Review by completing the OET Appeal Request Form, within five days from the date of receiving the decision of the OET Appeals Committee, with AU$120 payment in accordance with the payment instructions.
13.4 Appeal outcomes
- Results processed and published – your results may be processed following our standard assessment processes. Note that we are NOT able to increase marks in consideration of any issue affecting candidate performance.
- Re-sit arranged – you may be offered a free re-sit if your appeal is upheld.
- Appeal upheld – you may receive a refund if an appeal is upheld.
- Reversal of decision – decisions regarding Test administration may change as a result of further investigation.
- Report from investigation – you will receive a report by email outlining the investigation and decision made by the Chair of the Appeal Committees.
- Continuous improvement – information regarding appeals will be provided to our teams and used to improve our processes.
14.1 OET Trademark and Copyright
OET® is a registered trademark of CBLA. All OET Test material and test related content is confidential and commercially sensitive to CBLA and the copyright in that material and content is owned by CBLA.
Any redistribution or reproduction of part or all of the contents in any form is strictly prohibited.
You may not reproduce, record, transmit or store any OET Test material, or related content in any form.
14.2 Privacy
We respect the privacy of our candidates and recognise the importance of protecting the information that you provide to us. Our Privacy Policy contains details about how we collect, use, disclose and handle personal information and matters such as access, correction-and-complaint procedures and website privacy. Our Privacy Policy is accessible via Privacy Policy and on request.
14.3 Acceptance of Terms and Conditions and Test Regulations
- We reserve the right to modify our Terms and Conditions and the Test Regulations as required and from time to time. Any material changes that will impact your test administration will be communicated to you.
- We will ensure our current Terms and Conditions and Test Regulations are available to candidates on our website at all times.
- By booking the OET Test, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and accept to be bound by our Terms and Conditions and Test Regulations, as amended from time to time.
